The talk will take to its compass, the legal effects, and new legal questions deriving from the usage and the development of artificial intelligence technologies. For the quest for effective legal answers with this regard, some questions are vital to be asked: “Why do we need binding rules for AI technologies?”, “How to empower legal remedies in digitalized and globalized societies?” , “Where does international law fall at the intersection of AI and legal field?”. Focusing on those questions, the talk will involve major legal steps taken by the European Union and by the Council of Europe concerning AI technologies. Since it is data that feeds these technologies, the privacy and security of data play the leading role in the legal framework of AI. Therefore, an emphasis will be given to the governance of data which will define the future of democracies and society as we have known.
